Ward and Ellis defend the GTD title

WINWARD Racing wins the IMSA GTD drivers’ and teams’ championships for the second year in a row at Petit Le Mans.

Russell Ward and Philip Ellis are IMSA champions again. At the season finale, the Motul Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, fifth place was enough for the #57 Mercedes-AMG GT3 to secure the GTD drivers’ and teams’ titles for the second year in a row. In the end, Ward and Ellis finished 195 points clear of their nearest rivals.

Highlights of the season included the class win at the Sebring 12 Hours. Indy Dontje again joined them for the endurance races. Mercedes-AMG also won the GTD manufacturers’ championship.

For the Texan team it is the second title in a row with the same driver pairing.
