WWR attacks in endurance racing

As last year, WINWARD Racing races in the Fanatec GT World Endurance Cup – this time with two cars, one for a veterans’ team and one for juniors.

WINWARD Racing faces a packed racing calendar again in the 2023 season. In addition to running two Mercedes-AMG GT3 for Lucas Auer (28, Kufstein) and David Schumacher (21, Salzburg) in the DTM and racing in the USA, the German-Texan team is expanding its programme in the Fanatec GT World and entering a second Mercedes-AMG GT3 in the Endurance Cup. The two cars from Altendiez are driven by a junior trio and a more experienced line-up.

The former consists of David Schumacher, Marius Zug (20, Munich) and Miklas Born (20, Basel/CH). While the two Germans raced in the DTM last year, the young Swiss caught the eye in ADAC GT4 Germany. The second car is driven by Russell Ward (33, Seabrook/USA), Philip Ellis (30, Zug/CH) and Indy Dontje (30, Alkmaar/NL), three real GT3 veterans with a successful past at WINWARD Racing, the team that grew out of HTP Motorsport.

The Fanatec GT World Endurance Cup programme comprises five rounds over different distances. While the races at Monza, Barcelona and the Nürburgring last three hours, the round at Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet runs over double the distance. The highlight of the season is once again the 24 hours on the legendary Ardennes rollercoaster at Spa-Francorchamps – this time at the start rather than the end of July.

“The Fanatec GT World has a firm place in WINWARD Racing’s programme,” stresses WWR team principal Christian Hohenadel. “The sporting standard in this series is enormously high. The term endurance race is a bit misleading in this context anyway. These are long sprint races in which you attack flat out from start to finish. For our juniors in particular, the Endurance Cup is an ideal platform to gain experience at a high international level – including the absolute highlight at Spa.”
